Joe Buck Won't Slip Up When It Comes to Taylor Swift During Chiefs Broadcasts
Since Taylor Swift became a regular face at Kansas City Chiefs games, announcers have occasionally stumbled when referring to her relationship with tight end Travis Kelce. However, one commentator who doesn't plan on making the same mistake is Joe Buck.
During the recent Chiefs vs. New Orleans Saints game, co-announcer Troy Aikman accidentally referred to Swift as Travis Kelce's "Mrs." after cameras showed the pop star enthusiastically cheering for her boyfriend during the second quarter. Buck, known for his witty on-air commentary, quickly corrected Aikman, reminding him, “You know they’re not married?”
This on-air slip-up drew attention, especially considering how closely fans have been following Swift's appearances at Chiefs games. After the mix-up, Aikman humorously acknowledged his mistake, saying, “I’m sure I’m in trouble for saying that.” Buck, with his daughters’ advice in mind, kept it light-hearted, admitting, “It happens.”
A Pattern of On-Air Mistakes
Interestingly, Aikman isn’t the first announcer to make this kind of error. About 10 months ago, fellow commentator Tony Romo also tripped up during a Chiefs broadcast in the 2023-24 season, referring to Swift as Kelce’s "wife" instead of "girlfriend." Romo quickly caught himself and corrected the mistake, but the moment made headlines, especially as the Chiefs went on to win the Super Bowl that season.
Swift’s Appearances at Chiefs Games
Currently on a break from her record-breaking Eras Tour, Taylor Swift has made several high-profile appearances at Chiefs games this season. At her most recent outing at Arrowhead Stadium, Swift was spotted wearing a stylish plaid dress paired with platform boots and sporting glitter freckles on her cheeks—proving once again that her sense of style is as talked about as her music.
The pop star's presence at these games has only heightened media attention, as she continues to support Kelce and the Chiefs. After their latest victory, a 26-13 win, Swift and Kelce were seen sharing a tender moment in her suite, much to the delight of fans.
The Undefeated Kansas City Chiefs
With Swift cheering from the stands, the Kansas City Chiefs have maintained an undefeated 5-0 record so far this season. Their next big game is against their 2024 Super Bowl opponents, the San Francisco 49ers, on October 20th—a matchup sure to draw plenty of attention both on and off the field.
